carrubers evening prayer @ german speaking congregation
12th october
my dutch friend gave me a backie through the city to this service. i was really holding on to that thing for dear life & truly believed i might actually die in edinburgh traffic. we arrived quite late but were welcomed warmly. classic protestant songs and a very scriptural sermon focused on the relationship between faith & doubt in a beautifully bare church
ratings
-
aura
3/10 but not in a strictly negative sense. very sola scriptura. something about the plainness made it very approachable
-
holiness
6/10 i think this came particularly from the aligment of the sermon with things i had been personally thinking about/things that had been in my prayers. one passage in mark referenced in the sermon i was actually studying at the time, which spooked me a bit. but it was otherwise not very holy sorry...
-
smell
5/10 solid neutral very clean
-
community
7/10 carrubers conduct their evening prayer at the german congregation temporarily but their regular service elsewhere -- something quite nice about everyone going out of their way to attend anyway.
-
engagement
6/10 pastor related passages to his own experience and those of people in congregation, invited us to talk to one another about our experiences with each other
-
music
6/10 nothing special
-
theology
4/10 not much to say here... nothing i particularly agreed/disagreed/found special. i am not particularly big on evangelicalism but i did not find this sermon grating
-
nice older ladies
7/10 they were definitely there and definitely nice
final score: 5/10
would possibly attend again, dutch friend not convinced.
